Job Summary
Purdue University and the University Undergraduate Academic Advising (UUAA) is seeking an experienced advisor to serve as a specialist for the university advising community.
This position will support students across campus in the event of planned advisor vacancies, helping to ease the transition for students to a new advisor.
This role also contributes to advising and professional development for the advising community and helps develop an inclusive advising framework for the university.
The primary responsibilities of this role include:
Advising: Special needs support.
This position will help students in cases of anticipated advisor vacancies such as extended medical leave or position vacancies.
The advisor will work with the department in need to provide students with a consistent support experience and to transition students back to their primary advisor upon their return.
In the case of new hires, this position will assist with onboarding new advisors to prepare for a student-centered handoff of all advisees.
Professional development: Assist departments across the university with advising training needs on an as-needed basis.
General guidelines will be developed based on the skillset and experience of the person in the role.
This position will also work directly with the UUAA Assistant Director of Professional Development and the Advisor Development and Professional Training (ADaPT) team to develop and deliver quality learning opportunities for all advisors.
Additionally, this position will assist with learning opportunities for all academic advisors in the continuing Inclusive Advising project.
Inclusive Advising is an equity-minded, student-centered practice that emphasizes mutual respect, dignity, self-awareness, and authenticity.

Inclusive advising centers the student in an asset-framed approach where the advisor differentiates educational guidance to meet students where they are and acknowledges the critical value of each student’s unique social capital.
What is needed:
Master's degree (or comparable years of experience) in student personnel, higher education, or relevant field
Three years of experience as an academic advisor or in a student services role
Higher Education experience
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Must be able to collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and parents
Demonstrated ability to interpret and administer academic policy necessary
Must have excellent organizational skills, ability to multi-task, establish priorities, and resolve conflict
Basic skills in Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Additional Information:
The pay range for this position is $48,000 - $57,000 per year, plus benefits.
